Hose reels are suited to large areas or corridors where a fire extinguisher may not provide adequate cover, and are often required by fire certificate or insurers. A fire hose reel unit is a circular drum typically holding a hose with a fully adjustable nozzle. The drum is bracketed to a wall and is normally fed via the local water authority supply into the building; this then feeds an integrated system of pipe work connecting strategically positioned hose reels.
